The great martyrdom of Nagasaki, September 10th 1622, in which 22 missionaries and native Christians were burnt to death, and 30 others, including several women and children, beheaded, in the presence of a vast crowd. Pope Pius IX commemorated this event by the beautification of 205 maytrs, which was decreed at Rome on the 7th of July, 1867.
