The illumination of the Old Town, Edinburgh. This grand display was to celebrate the marriage of the Duke of Edinburgh, second son of Queen Victoria, to Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna, the only daughter of Emperor Alexander III of Russia, which had taken place the same day in St. Petersburg.
