The carriage of Tsar Alexander II following the bomb blast that killed him on 13th March 1881. Alexander II was an enlightened ruler who, the day before his death, had signed a manifesto designed to set the country on the road to constitutional government. Despite this, he survived several assassination attempts until the terrorist attack that killed him. He was succeeded by his son, Alexander III.
