Details

A plain clothes policeman, in centre, using his revolver to keep strikers apart from a free labourer during the Melbourne Waterside Workers strike of 1928. Fighting broke out when the Unionists strongly objected to the New Transport Workers Act, bringing in volunteers to work on the ships. Bombs and mob tactics were used to try to intimidate volunteers, causing riots on the dock side.
