Scene on the beach at Biarritz in 1866, about a decade after the resort on the SW French coast was made fashionable by Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie. Engraving shows the 'morning lounge' with bathers in the water and many people - looking somewhat overdressed - milling around on the beach.
