Description The new army at drill in Hyde Park at the start of WWI
Details

In the six weeks between 4th August and 15th September 1914, over 501,000 recruits were enlisted into the British Army. The training was essentially practical and directed at making the men physically fit and capable of handling a rifle. Long marches, Swedish drill, musketry and football were its chief features.
