Scene during one of the fierce battles along the Chemin des Dames, where French soldiers fight off a German assault on a block-house which had lost some of its guns due to a previous bombardment. The French defended it for twelve hours before finally withdrewing on orders. Most of the survivors were burnt by liquid fire and all were wounded. None had been captured.
