Officers of the Second Battalion of the East Kent regiment, known as The Buffs. Pictured here on the steps of Winchester College, where they were billeted before leaving for the front in World War One. The Buffs are reported here to be the oldest British regiment, having fought in Holland as far back as 1253, and paraded before Queen Elizabeth I in 1572.
