A music sheet front cover for the 'Prince Imperial Gallop'. Louis Napoleon, the Prince Imperial was heir to the French Imperial throne. He died 1st June 1879 in the Zulu War when his scouting party were ambushed by over forty Zulus. Public and press interest in the Prince flourished following his death and this music sheet is typical of the sentimental and heroic way he was often depicted.
