Description | The Prince of Wales skiing and pipe smoking in Norway |
Details |
The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII, then Duke of Windsor) pictured at Finse on the Bergen Railway in Norway, where he was on skis for eight hours a day, 'becoming an expert ski-runner and out-doing his companions in endurance,' according to a report in The Sketch. The prince was on a visit to his aunt, Queen Maud of Norway (and King Haakon). The lower photograph shows him with a party ready to start for the Hardangerjokel under the guidance of Mr Andreas Klen who was followed by his tame reindeer. Major Cadogan, who attended the prince, is seen stroking the animal's head.
