Picture No 10698141
Date 1885
Description The Sacred White Elephant
Details

Sketches in Burmah (Burma - modern day Myanmar), with the recently caught sacred white elephant given to the King depicted though the ILN correspondent calls it 'as great a fraud as Barnum's 'white elephant.' There were a few muddy patches on its skin, and some white hairs, probably from age; but the King is wild with joy.'
