Description The Sale of a Deserters' Belongings on board a British Warsh
Details

Sale of the belongings of a deserter, on board a British battleship. This rare event was held whenever a seaman deserted and left belongings on board a ship. The Ship's Corporal, or Master-at-Arms, (with his back to us) is acting as auctioneer, with another officer taking a record. The proceeds from this kind of sale were forfeited to the Crown.
