Frontispiece of a supplement within The Sketch magazine about America and the Peerage, looking at the numerous wealthy American heiresses who married into the British aristocracy during the Edwardian era. The photograph features the Marquis of Blandford and Lord Ivor Charles Spencer-Churchill, sons of the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough. The Duchess had formerly been Miss Consuelo Vanderbilt, She married the duke in 1895 after being coerced into the marriage by her mother. After her divorce in 1920, she devoted much of her time to social welfare and was married again, to Colonel Jacques Balsan. The little boy in the left of the picture became the 10th Duke of Marlborough.
