Description Spool and Steam Engine used for Sounding the Atlantic
Details

The cable spool and steam engine on United States Navy Steamship 'Arctic', whilst sounding the Atlantic. The steam engine was used for recovering the line from the great depths of the ocean. This project was undertaken in preparation for the laying of the first Atlantic Telegraph Cable.
