Description The Story of a Dress - Christian Dior
Details

Double page spread from The Sketch drawn by Francis Marshall documenting the different stages of a Christian Dior dress. Top left the dress is designed by Dior himself while top right shows a seamstress at work. Left picture (middle) depicts dress show crowds arriving at the salons of Dior at the Avenue Montaigne in Paris and below potential buyers and customers watch mannequins wearing a 'Barcarolle - robe a danser' made of peach coloured satin with a black pattern. Worn with black gloves that button up behind the neck. The underskirt of tulle dips below the hem at the back of the skirt. The right hand picture shows the dress worn at an opera house gala night with the Gardes Republicaine lining the foyer.
