Partick O'Donnel at his trial. Patrick O'Donnell was accused and sentenced to death for the murder of James Carey. The trial took place at the Old Bailey, and O'Donnell was hanged in Newgate in December 1884. James Carey was an informer who had given evidence against 5 men for the Pheonix Park murders in Dublin. Carey was being escorted onto the ship 'Melrose' when O'Donnell managed to board the ship and shoot him.
