Description | The Universal Philanthropist |
Details |
The Universal Philanthropist. A satire on charitable giving as a ragged family ask a man for charity. Incensed, he replies, 'Why you impudent scoundrel! Asking me for anything! ... Interrupting me too at a moment when I am perfecting a grand benevolent plan of Universal Brotherhood and Community of Goods, for the amelioration of the whole Human Race! Why you ungrateful wretch, get out of my house, and learn to love your benefactors!'
