General Pope's division on its way from New Madrid to reinforce General Halleck, near Corinth. Reinforcements are seen arriving by train for the Battle of Shiloh, April 6-7th 1862, which would later result in terrible losses on both sides. Major General Ulysses Grant suffered a surprise attack from the Confederates and a bitter and bloody battle ensued with over 23,000 dead.
