A sample of water from the Serpentine, Hyde Park, London viewed at 200 times magnification, 1857. This particular sample was taken from the upper portion of the Serpentine. At that time the water of the Serpentine was considered a 'laboratory of epidemic miasma' and an attempt to clean the water underway.
