Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh during the marriage ceremony to the Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia in the Winter Palace of St. Petersburg in January 1874. The wedding comprised of two ceremonies; a Greek orthodox ceremony in the Imperial Chapel, immediately followed by an English ceremony in the Alexander Hall, conducted by the Dean of Westminster. Here, crowns are being placed over the couple's heads in the tradition of Greek Orthodox weddings.
