Portrait of Lady Levinge, wife of the late Sir Richard Levinge, formerly of the 8th Hussars and then attached to the 1st Life Guards in which he served until he was killed at Ypres on 24 October 1914 (shot through the neck while crossing between trenches). Lady Levinge, portrayed here as 'A Pretty Study of One Widowed by this Terrible War,' was formerly Irene Margeurite Pix and had one son, Richard, born in 1911.
