Portrait of Mr W A Dunne, Commissariat Department, defender of Rorke's Drift. 137 British soldiers held the fort at Rorke's Drift against a force of over 3,000 Zulus. 11 men were awarded Victoria Crosses for bravery in evacuating the hospital there. Dunne helped build a fortification where the men held out against the Zulus.
