Details |
Tom Browne (1870 - 1910), artist and illustrator. Known as a 'black and white artist' , as magazine illustrators of the day were, Browne is credited with drawing the first comic strip in 1896 (it appeared in Chips) but his work appeared in many forms - posters, postcards, advertisements and magazine illustrations. He was a regular contributor to Punch and The Tatler. He died tragically young of cancer at the age of 39. Two photographs show him at 21 and at the age of 34.
