Description | Torpedoing of SS Athenia by G. H. Davis |
Details |
The torpedoing of SS Athenia without warning: the actual moment of the attack. Getting the boats away after she had been torpedoed off the coast of Ireland. The liner shrouded in black smoke at the moment she was hit, and the puff of white smoke on the sea, probably from the attacking submarine after the event. The SS Athenia was the first merchant ship sunk by the Germany navy during the Second World War.
