Picture No 12688884
Date 1848
Description Train passing under arch into Conway railway station 1848
Details

Train passing under an arch into Conway railway station, Conway, North Wales. The arch has been cut through part of the original wall of Conway (Conwy) Castle. The coach itself is the New Observation Coach added to the Llanberis train by the L & NW Railway, enabling passengers to enjoy a full view of the Welsh scenery en route. An American visitor was heard remarking that the Castle was a fine structure, but it was a pity it had been built so close to the railway. The castle was built in the 13th century, the railway somewhat later.
