Description Unity Mitford
Details

Unity Valkyrie Freeman-Mitford (1914 - 1948), fourth daughter of Lord and Lady Redesdale. Unity famously supported the Nazi party and in the period leading up to World War II, spent a large amount of time in Germany, often in the company of Adolf Hitler who she developed an obsession with. In 1939 following Britain's declaration of war on Germany she attempted suicide by shooting herself but she survived and was sent back to the UK to recover. Unity died in 1948 aged 33 after suffering from meningitis. Pictured here in the Bystander in the year of her 'coming-out' looking rather sullen with very long, Teutonic plaits. The Bystander reports that 'she recently gave a small dance in honour of her coming-out'.
