Eye witness showing the German dirigible over Antwerp on the night of August 24th & 25th 1914. Against the laws of international warfare, a Zeppelin air-ship flew over the city for the purpose of dropping bombs on civilian targets. In the event, seven people were killed and twenty injured. World War I was the first conflict to involve civilians. As well as French and Belgian targets, the East coast towns of Great Britain would suffer bombings during the course of the war.
