Description Victims of the Amphion disaster being laid to rest
Details

Among the first victims of war were the ill-fated seamen who were killed or drowned when the Amphion went down on 5th August 1914. Here, a party of British seamen carry the bodies or four British and two German sailors who died of wound inflicted by the fatal explosion. They were buried together in the quiet graveyard of Shottery, near Harwich.
