Bessie Wallis Warfield Simpson (1896 - 1986), photograph taken when she was wife of Naval Commander E. Winfield Spencer, and a leader of the fashionable set in Southern California. Wallis divorced her second husband, Ernest Simpson to marry King Edward VIII who in turn abdicated the throne in favour of her.
