Details |
The former Miss DOris Petersen, newly married to Major Douglas Reynolds, V.C., of the Royal Field Artillery. The Sketch magazine reports that the wedding was a quiet one as the bride's family were in mourning for her brother who was killed in action at Ypres. Douglas Reynolds was one of the first soldiers to receive the Victoria Cross during the Great War for conspicuous bravery at Le Cateau on 26 August 1914, when he took up two teams and limbered up two guns under heavy artillery and infantry fire managing to rescue one gun. At Pisseloup, on 19 September he reconnoitred at close range, discovered a battery which was holding up the advance and silenced it, becoming severely wounded in the process. Major Reynolds returned to the front shortly after his marriage and was wounded in action, dying at the Duchess of Westminster's hospital at Le Touquet on 23 February 1916. Doris married John Crocker Bulteel in 1919.
