William Caxton (c1422 - 1491), English merchant, diplomat, writer, printer and bookseller, thought to be the first person to introduce the printing press to England, in 1476. Portrait with associated locations -- the Weald of Kent (top), Westminster Abbey (left), the Almonry (right), Hall of the Mercers' Company (below). Also incorporating initial letters and other designs from Caxton's works.
