Field-Marshal Bernard Montgomery (on left in beret) and Prime Minister Winston Churchill (second from right) crossing the River Rhine with a group of American troops in a landing craft, 25th March 1945. British and American troops had captured part of the Eastern bank of the Rhine two days previously and Churchill and Montgomery were visiting the area to see how the assault on Nazi Germany was progressing.
