Winston Churchill, as Prime Minister during the Blitz in World War Two, paid many visits to bombed towns to see the damage for himself and hearten the inhabitants. He cheerfully waves his hat on the end of his walking stick as he is driven through a Bristol street in 1941 that had suffered from the attentions of German bombers.
