Description | Woburn Abbey as a military hospital, WW1 |
Details |
Patients pose on the verandah of the Chinese dairy at Woburn Abbey, the seat of the Duke of Bedford. The house was converted into a military hospital during the First World War for wounded soldiers and had a number of wards with direct access to the outside grounds. The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News calls it 'one of the most delightfully situated military hospitals in the country.'
