Description | Women waiting to in St Stephen's Hall 1908 |
Details |
Women waiting to be "fetched" in St Stephen's Hall, guarded by policemen, as a result of concerns over the actions of the Suffragettes in the House of Commons. Under the new "stringent" regulations no woman was allowed into a public lobby unless accompanied by a member of the House and all women would have to wait in the Hall until a man came to vouch for their peaceful intentions and accompany them further. The article describes a "Suffragette Scare in the House of Commons" and remarks on how "the innoccent suffer for the sins of their erring sisters".
