Date 1915
Description Women working at convalescent remount depot, WW1
Details

Scenes at a convalescent army remount, where forty to fifty hunting women were employed. The depot was under the District Remount Officer for Berkshire, Mr Cecil Aldin (the well-known animal and sporting artist and also Master of the South Berks Hunt) who was responsible for the control, organisation and care of the horses. All the stable work and exercise was done by women, who were mostly hunting women from every county in England. Photographs show the stables and the headwoman who oversaw each depot.
