Description Work rooms of Lady Sclater, WW1
Details

A page from The Sketch showing society ladies hard at work at the work rooms of Lady Sclater at 18 Pont Street, London. In the top photograph, a group are making life-saving waistcoats for men on mine-sweepers and the second photograph shows the slipper making room. The first parcel was sent out by Lady Sclater from 40 Lowndes Street on 18 August 1914. To give some idea of the output, 19,813 ladies attended the work rooms between January and June 1917 and during that six month period, 174,000 articles were made and despatched.
