The advancing French as seen from a low-flying aeroplane: in individual trenches and moving. Aerial photographs of French soldiers in World War One on the Western front: infantry advancing through harvest fields; infantry advancing in an open plain; with a German ammunition-wagon destroyed by a shell, first-line French troops in a roadside ditch before Fere-en-Tardenois; and French troops dug-in in individual trenches during an advance - some resting, others still digging, others waving their signalling panels to the aviator (main picture).
