Date 1915
Description Wounded British soldiers at Bleinheim Palace
Details

British soldiers being nursed back to the health in the comfortable environs of the war hospital at Blenheim Palace, residence of the Duke of Marlborough. The Long Library was converted to a ward containing fifty beds and the men could talk, smoke and play games in smaller rooms adjoining. The staff were under the supervision of Colonel Ranking, R.A.M.C., the county representative of the War Office. This picture was taken in a favourite lounge in the long library named by the soldiers, 'the trenches.' The matron, Miss Amy Munn, is seen on the right.
