Baron Wilhelm von Schoen, German ambassador in Paris at the beginning of World War I assuring interim for Foreign Affairs M. Jean-Baptiste Bienvenu-Martin and Philippe Berthelot, by reading a communication from the German government backing Austria and declaring that if the conflict does not remain localised, "the most serious consequences" are to be feared.
