Impression of aeroplanes painted with bright colours in order to give them a more terrifying appearance. The device was first employed by the Germans who had one squadron, under Baron von Richthofen, painted bright scarlet. The artist has not shown how British machines were actually painted by offers a suggestion of his own for making a squadron distinct and terrifying.
