Details

Chief Dunn's men, part of the Zulu deputation who came to ask for the return of the king. John Dunn was the son of an English trader in Zululand. He spoke fluent Zutu and Xhosa and provided the British army with intelligence during the Zulu wars. He was rewarded by power and influence, but was equally respected by the Zulus for his African qualities and lifestyle. He and many Zulus pictured here agitated for King Cetshwayo's return to Zululand.
