1934 single-seater Maserati
The 1934 single-seater Maserati with 2.9 litre straight-eight engine represented (together with the corresponding Alfa Romeo) the highest development of the orthodoxly sprung chassis with rigid front and rear axles. The car shown developed 205 bhp and was a direct development of a design initiated in 1930. This picture shows Whitney Straight about to break the International Class D flying kilometre record at 136.98 mp in June 1934
