Details

Avro Lancaster I ‘Aries’, PD328, of the Empire Air Navigation School, Shawbury, warming up prior to its England to Cape Town record-breaking flight of 32hrs 21min. This aircraft had Lancastrian nose and tail sections, Lincoln undercarriage and extra fuel tanks in the nose and bomb bay. It also carried the newest navigational aids. After a series of long-range flights between 1944 and 1947 and covering 200,000 miles the aircraft was retired.
