Looking Skywards
by Rebecca Gethin

…it’s as if trees are singing
in disembodied voices
while each green spikelet
unfolds itself from the inside
giving tongue in the language of birds
hidden in the thickening canopy.

We strain to understand what it is
they repeat, meanings unleashed
like pollens caught in a gust,
truths being spoken which we’d understand
if only we drank dragon’s blood,
news from migrations, their other skies.
