Collection of the week: Africa Media Online

In another week of scorching temperatures for many of us, we thought we'd keep things hot by showcasing our Africa Media Online collection.

Telling Africa's story through visual media, Africa Media Online showcases a range of work by indigenous artists and photographers as well as images from African museums and photo archives.

Among the 14,500 pictures available, a wealth of content from Drum Magazine covers the realms of politics, culture and the complexities of the vast African nations. The collection of Sir George Edward Cory focuses on the historical places, buildings and people of the Eastern Cape, while photography by Graeme Williams not only covers South Africa's transition to democratic rule, but also includes some breath-taking landscapes. There are stunning portraits by the late David Goldblatt, who was renowned for his portrayal of South Africa during and after the Apartheid era, and a collection of watercolours from the Iziko Museum offering a record of indigenous animals, some of which are sadly extinct.
