The Boy Scouts Jubilee Chain of Beacons by Alfred Bestall

In endless range, those twinkling points of fire. An impression of the vast network of bonfires, which were the Scout movement's contribution to the King's Siver Jubilee celebrations. The old telegraph hills and the more ancient beacon hills were among the sites chosen for the beacons. The bonfires were made in the traditional conical shape of intertwined branches, old wool and rags, and surmounted by a tar barrel. This picture shows one of the hillier districts, where it was possible to see many beacons from one point
