Women Digging for Coal during 1912 Miners Strike
The national coal strike of 1912 was the first national strike by coal miners in the United Kingdom. Its main aim was securing a minimum wage. After 37 days, the government intervened and ended the strike. Families were totally reliant for coal for heating and cooking. They resorted to digging in colliery waste tips for coal when supplies ran out during the strike
