An American Sherman tank left after the Battle of Monte Cassino, which was a series of four assaults by the Allies against the German Winter cGustav'ae Line in Italy during the Italian Campaign of World War II. The intention was a breakthrough to Rome. Combat damage incurred during the Battle of Monte Cassino. The village of Cassino was destroyed beyond recognition. 55.000 Allied soldiers - American, British, French, Australian, New Zealandese, Polish, Italian and South African. The Germans lost 20.000 soldiers
