Arrival of the Franciscans in Florence in the early 13th century, fresco, late 14th century, attributed to Pietro Nelli, 1375-1419, in the cenacolo or refectory of the convent, at the Basilica di Santa Croce, the largest Franciscan church in the world, founded by St Francis of Assisi, begun 1294, consecrated 1443, and remodelled in the 16th century by Giorgio Vasari, October 2023, in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. A community of Franciscan friars still lives and works at the basilica. The historic centre of Florence is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
